Chicken Paprika

Ingredients
- 1 onion, chopped
- 4 tablespoons shortening
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons salt, divided
- 1 (4 -5 lb) whole chickens, disjointed
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1 cup sour cream
- 3 eggs, beaten
- 1/2 cup water
- 3 cups flour
Recipe
- 1 make dumplings: mix with a spoon: 3 eggs, beaten; 1/2 cup water; 3 cups flour and 1 t. salt. drop batter by teaspoons into boiling salted water. cook 10 minutes; drain. rinse with cold water.
- 2 chicken: brown onion in shortening. add seasonings and chicken; brown 10 minutes. add water; cover and let simmer slowly until tender. remove chicken; add sour cream to to drippings in pan and mix well. add dumplings.
- 3 arrange chicken on top. heat through and serve. for more gravy, add 1/2 pint sweet cream to sour cream. cooking time for chicken is a guess.
